President’s Letter

– first published in the June 2026 issue of The Equiery

Dear Members and Friends of the Maryland Horse Council,

As I reflect on the many conversations, initiatives, and events happening across our Maryland horse community, one thing continues to stand out: progress happens when we work together. Our equestrian world is made up of many disciplines, perspectives, and passions, but our shared love of horses unites us in powerful ways.

Change is not always easy. New ideas, evolving programs, and shifting priorities can sometimes feel uncomfortable at first. Yet time and again, our community has shown that when we remain open-minded, collaborative, and focused on the greater good of the horse industry, those changes often lead to stronger organizations, better opportunities, and a healthier future for horses and horse people alike.

The Maryland horse community has always been resilient. Whether advocating for the industry, supporting equine welfare, preserving open space, mentoring the next generation, or simply lending a helping hand at local events, our members continue to demonstrate what makes this community so special. Every volunteer hour, every membership renewal, every event attended, and every voice raised in support of our industry matters more than you may realize.

I also want to personally thank our equestrian community for its continued support of The Equiery. For so many of us, picking up the latest issue at the local feed store or finding it in our mailbox has long been a familiar and welcome tradition. We have all enjoyed flipping through the pages to catch up on the latest news, events, accomplishments, and stories that connect Maryland horse people across every discipline. The Equiery has helped keep our community informed and connected for as long as we can remember, and that only happens because of loyal readers, contributors, advertisers, and supporters like you.

On behalf of the Maryland Horse Council, thank you for being active, engaged, and supportive members of Maryland’s horse community. Your passion and dedication are what keep this industry moving forward.

Together, we can continue building a future that honors our traditions while embracing positive growth and change.

Thank you for all you do for Maryland horses!

Sincerely,
Laura Lane-Unsworth
