Dear Members and Friends of the Maryland Horse Council,
One day, many many years from now, I hope there will never be a child in Maryland who has to ask:
“What was it like to own a horse?”
I hope there will always be farms where horses graze peacefully at sunrise. I hope there will always be trails to ride, racetracks that thrill us, therapeutic riding centers that change lives, and barns filled with laughter, hard work, and dreams.
But none of that is guaranteed.
The future of horses in Maryland depends on us.
It depends on horse owners who speak up. It depends on volunteers who give their time. It depends on preserving farmland, protecting trails, supporting equine businesses, and introducing young people to the joy and responsibility of horses.
Most importantly, it depends on a community that understands that horses are not simply a hobby. They are part of Maryland’s history, economy, landscape, and way of life.
That is why the Maryland Horse Council matters.
And that is why you matter.
You are the heart of the Maryland Horse Council. Whether you ride every day, own a single retired horse, volunteer at events, run an equine business, or simply cherish the sight of horses grazing in our fields, your passion helps shape the future.
I want every member of our community to know that you are seen, appreciated, and valued. Your voice matters. Your experiences matter. And together, we have the power to ensure that Maryland remains one of the great horse states in America.
The greatest gift we can give the next generation is not simply stories about horses. It is the opportunity to know them, care for them, and love them as we have.
That is a future worth protecting.
And it is a future we will build together.
