EDCC Reports 5 New Cases of Strangles

Three days after reporting 17 suspected cases of strangles at a boarding barn in Baltimore County, EDCC is now reporting 5 new confirmed cases around in the state. They are:

(i) a 12-year-old pony mare at a private facility in Montgomery County;

(ii) two warmblood geldings at a show barn in Anne Arundel County — one a 5-year-old and the other a 6-year-old; and

(iii) two Thoroughbred geldings used for pleasure riding at a boarding facility in Baltimore County — one an 8-year-old and one a 9-year-old.

The two warmblood geldings are at the same Anne Arundel County facility as the 21-year-old Thoroughbred mare who was confirmed with strangles on August 7th.

This brings the total number of confirmed strangles cases this summer to 16.

We will continue to post updates as more cases come in.
