County Executive Calvin Ball Proclaims Horse Month in Howard County

On October 23, County Executive Calvin Ball proclaimed October 2025 to be Maryland Horse Month in Howard County.

The Proclamation reads:

WHEREAS October 2025 is the 5th anniversary of Maryland Horse Month where we celebrate our vibrant and thriving equine industry. Maryland consistently boasts more horses per square mile than any other state and contributes to the economy through numerous goods, services, and tourism opportunities. From feed and equipment dealers to equine facilities for boarding, riding and competition to farrier, training, and veterinary professionals, horses are a vital part of our community, our economy, and our heritage; and

WHEREAS Howard County is home to the Maryland Horse Council and more than 65 horse farms ranking our small county among the top ten counties in the State. As part of the top five economic drivers in the county, our dedicated local farmers and equestrians contribute more than a million dollars to the economy and support numerous jobs in veterinary services, training and boarding facilities, and farm labor. Through stellar events, competitions and recreational riding opportunities, the county draws thousands of enthusiasts and significant commerce to our community; and

WHEREAS Howard County Government proudly joins the Maryland Horse Council and our local agriculture industry to recognize the vitality and resilience of horse farming and applaud all the farms, rescues, professionals and equestrians that work to ensure our farming heritage is strong and prosperous for generations to come.
