Carolyn Mackintosh of Loch Moy Farm Appointed New MHC Representative to the Maryland Horse Industry Board.

We are trilled to announce that earlier this month, Governor Wes Moore appointed MHC Board Member Carolyn Mackintosh to succeed Neil Agate as MHC’s new representative to the Maryland Horse Industry Board. Agate’s term expired in June 2024. The Maryland Horse Industry Board is comprised of 12 members, 11 of whom are appointed by the Governor. Of those 11 gubernatorial appointments, “[o]ne shall be a representative of the Maryland Horse Council, Inc.” MD Agriculture Code § 2-704 (2024).

As we previously reported in The Equiery, Carolyn Mackintosh began transforming her family’s Loch Moy Farm in Adamstown, from cow country to a premier eventing facility in 2006. She now runs over 50 competition days each year – more than any other eventing venue (private or public) in Maryland and comparable to the historic Morven Park Equestrian Center across the river in Leesburg, Virginia. Loch Moy hosts events for all ages, amateurs and professionals alike, from starter activities for the very newest human and equine competitors all the way up to the Maryland International FEI CCI 1/2/3/4*CCI4*-S. In 2024, Loch Moy hosted both the Area III Eventing Championships and the U.S. Young Rider Eventing Championship. US Eventing has called Loch Moy “a year-round playground for eventers.”

Mackintosh also organizes United States Dressage Federation shows, dressage schooling shows, cross derbys in the winter months, and the marquee event horse breed show, the Bred-to-Event Classic.

Mackinstosh will bring a much needed perspective to the Maryland Horse Industry Board because she is the only member that can speak for privately owned and managed competition venues. She brings a wealth of information on best practices for event management, which information she has collected over the years by traveling around the world to international events, including Nations Cup competitions and, last year, the Paris Olympics.

This global perspective has made Loch Moy the most innovative competition venue in our state.

Congratulations, Carolyn!
