The Pumphrey Award is awarded to an individual who played a significant role “behind the scenes” in the Maryland horse community. This award is given in memory of two of the founders of the Maryland Horse Council, in recognition of the often tremendous, yet thankless effort needed to start any organization, and the dedication it takes to persevere through the often mundane and boring tasks required to keep an organization growing and moving forward. Qualified candidates are usually those who have worked on a voluntary basis, or have worked above and beyond the call of duty of their position, and all without ever asking for any recognition or self-glory for their actions. Nominations must be submitted with a detailed biography outlining their contributions to the Maryland equestrian community.
